The Technical Concept

BOS-pack analyzes the data stream and compresses it by a number of optimization methods. BOS-pack runs like any other CICS application. No system modifications are required. 

 

Following some of the optimization methods provided by BOS-pack:
Image buffering: Data that remains unchanged on the screen is not transmitted
Inbound compression: Only data which is entered at the terminal is transmitted
Attribute elimination: Identical attributes for consecutive fields are removed

The Benefits

 

BOS-pack increases the data throughput by reducing the transmission data. This allows more terminal and printers to run on the same-sized network. The capacity of a network will be increased.
BOS-pack optimizes the data stream for transmission. The number of characters which are sent to remote terminals and printers is considerably reduced (up to 90 percent and more).
BOS-pack makes response times faster because of an optimal transmission. The user notices the difference immediately. The productivity will be increased.

Technical Requirements

 

Operating systems supported:
OS/390, MVS/ESA, MVS/XA, VSE-ESA, VSE-SP 
with CICS version 1.7 and higher or CICS/ESA version 3.1 and higher or CICS TS version 1.1 and higher
Installation:
-Loading the BOS-pack source and load modules
-Defining a VSAM file, adding entries to CICS tables PPT, PCT and FCT resp. supplementing RDO-definitions (provided with the installation tape)
-Customizing BOS-pack to the individual system environment by an Assembly
